End of Term 1 Reflection.

This term art has gone has pretty well for me. I think I was able to meat expectations on the class works that I did. I have learned how to make certain parts of my images that I have drawn stand out from the other things in my drawings. For example in my glass half full project I was able to make the people who were suppose to be friends in the photo stand out, but I was aslo able to have the school building there and make it kind of as tho it was in the background. Before I wasn't as good at doing this. I feel that after having art class I am a little bit better at making art work on my own. One challenge in art has been mostly how should I go about starting a project once I have an idea. How should I get going with the materials I have or intend to use. I think I can get better at this by doing more projects. If I work hard and think about the upcoming projects I do in class and plan out my ideas before I get to work and start, I think I will be able to have an easier time when I'm ready to start. I think I have grown as an artist a lot this year. Before this year sometimes when I did art I would be worried about how a project I did looked or turned out when I was done. This term I have been more able to just focus on projects we have done and not worry about how the final out come of the project looked even if I didn't intend it to look like it ended up looking. I have noticed this term that I have been trying new things on projects. Like experimenting with lots of different types of materials. This term has gone well in art and I think if I keep up with the class work and keep working hard on my projects it will continue to go well for me.

Chair With Coat.

I found todays drawing the coat on the chair wasn't to hard. It was easy enough when I got the general shape of the objects. I was then able to go back in and do some shading. This one for me was much easier than the fabric and stick drawings to create. To create my drawing today I just drew the general image and the went back in and added more detail. So I did general to specifics.

Coming back to school after summer vacation Glass Half Full project

Making my two drawings went fine. At first I couldn't decide what to draw. But after I got an idea it wasn't to hard to make my drawings. I got feedback from a couple people and they said maybe draw another person. They also said sense I hadn't started my drawing of the negatives of coming back to school that I could possible draw a person sitting at a desk with a huge stack or books or papers pilled u and the person looking nervous. I like especially how I was able to come up with an idea and draw it without being to worried  about how it turned out knowing if I made a mistake I could just erase and keep right on going.

principles of design resaerch

ALL FOUR of these words should be in your post: BALANCE, EMPHASIS, MOVEMENT, PROPORTION.

AT LEAST THREE of the the following words should be in your post: SYMMETRY, ASYMMETRY, CONTRAST, PLACEMENT, GROUPING, REPETITION, LEADING LINES, IMPLIED MOVEMENT.

On your blog, describe the feedback you got on your work.
Mention at least one sculpture from your group you thought was especially successful and why.

I got some good feed back on my sculpture. I had good balance of different materials of things I used on my sculpture. One of the things I got recommended was to make the back of my person look similar to the front. I also got emphasized that it should have some more features that would make it more human like.
I thought Lucas and Richard had a nice sculpture. They made a turtle. They made it look like a turtle well they use. They used a variety of materials and had good proportion. The legs of the turtle where ruffly the same sized and the whole thing wasn't bigger or smaller than a turtle could have been.

Fabric drawings

Today you drew some fabric hanging in the middle of the room.
You were asked to think about creating the feeling of the fabric's weight and behavior in your drawing.
You were asked to build the drawing from the general to the specific.

My drawing went pretty well. It was okay creating the fabric cloth images.
Today felt a little bit easier to draw.

My group suggested that maybe I could make my guy have some real hair and some legs. Maybe make his back bit more like the rest of his body like his front.

Pile of sticks

Drawing the pile of sticks was challenging because you couldn't draw everything that was there just draw the general pile. My outcome was ok but I think maybe it would have been better if it was drawn bigger.

Found Images Collage Reflection

Beltre: Home run!!!!
Working on this college project was challenging for me but also fun. It was hard for me at first to come up with an idea from the photos I had found from magazines. I think when I finally got an idea for the pictures I had, it was easy enough ones I got started to keep going because it was something I was interested in.  I think my project is explains what my favorite sport is. I think I was able to really make my idea stand out and it came out how I wanted it to.

Mid-term Reflection

Usually when I start a project or something I am thinking about how I want it to look when its finished. I also plan what I want to do or how I want to make the certain thing I am going to and I decide what materials I am going to want to use and what supplies I have to use.
We have done several projects up to this point. The painting that we spilled paint onto a piece of paper and came back and tried to make something out of the blobs or shapes that had formed. I made a monster with multi colored hair. Recently we finished a college project were we had to take pictures out of magazines and make our own picture. My college was baseball related. I took a picture of Adrian Beltre and made him stand out as the hitter and there being a crowd watching what happens. I also found a catcher so I thought that would make the picture look better. For the crowed I just found as many heads as I could from magazines and put them in the background for the crowed. In class and for outside of class use we have a sketchbook to draw in. Every Wensday it would be due at the end of x block. We had to draw on four pages, so two spreads. We could draw almost anything we wanted to. The only real big guide lines were that we got a sheet and every week in our sketchbook on one or two of the pages we had to do one of the things a different one each week. Two of the pages I have done so far I spilled ginger al soda on them to make a design or an image. Another page I drew all circles another one of the options. One page I cut it up to make a design from still another option we had to do. Every Tuesday we did this drawing activity called drop everything and draw from observation. Mostly we worked at the easels looking at like a mini table with stuff on it and we had to draw what was there. We used black and white charcoal. We first focused on the overall shapes and where they would go in your drawing. Then we did some shading. We made some parts of our drawings lighter or darker depending on what angle we had.

Drawing from observation.

I was difficult to draw all the objects on the little table thing and then have to erase half of them. You had to be able to draw the objects quickly in order to get them in your drawing before the next one was put on to the table and had to be put into your drawing. You needed to be able to work in a pace.

Feedback on collage project

  • Maybe have a lot of faces and just scatter them in the background and fill up the page
  • Make a stand where the people or the faces could be

Drawing from observation

Drawing the cup, pin cone and block was fine drawing the darks and lights was a little harder because at first glass the whole thing looked a solid color with not much difference in lights and darks.

suggestions on paintings

My group said that my painting looked good. They said that in the background of my monster maybe I could put some sort of design or something to make it even better.

Pour Pantings

It was okay giving up control when we where making a painting. There wasn't a whole lot of things forming on the page there where a few bunches of blobs that I was able to make something out of them. When I returned to my painting to add on to it after it had dried I saw a bunch creatures and some animals starting to form. I ended up making a monster out of one of the big blobs and a whale out of a smaller one that kind of looked like an oval. I think my picture is almost done maybe if I wanted I could put a few finishing touches before I call it done.

Collaborative Drawings.

Having someone else work on my drawing was an interesting experience to see what other people thought I was thinking. I had a few things already on my paper and the people who changed my drawing just added on. The kept working on my tree and added some lights and darks. It was kinda nice to have others work on your drawing as well because it gave u more opportunity to have it look more like something else or give you more ideas. I think at first it was hard for me because my picture had changed a bit. There was now lights and darks at the end when I hadn't exactly thought about doing that. I had just planned for a bear chasing a monkey up the tree and a cat getting scared and running up a tree.

Talk and Draw

A challenge that I had doing this project was that we couldn't look at what we where suppose to be drawing. We had to get as much description about an object as we could from our partner who was looking to be able to draw it. Sometimes it was hard to draw an object because our partner had a little bit of trouble describing a shape to us. What I might do differently is I might have my partner when there drawing to draw the shapes and things bigger so that it would easier for them to put the other things next to the proper shapes in the right spots cause it was hard to describe the shapes.

Thinking about the Artist.

Everybody can be an artist if they want to and set there mind to it. Being creative is coming up with different ways you can make your thing or project you are doing look good. An artist needs to be able to be open to suggestions from others on certain art projects they may need or end up doing. To be productive and creative u need to plan your time and use the materials u have to make your projects look good.

Reflecting on blocks, play dough, and finger paint.

When I played with the play dough I made coil strands. The block I played around making towers until they fell down. I made hand prints with the paints. I knew what to do because I just played around and tried something out and if it wasn't exactly what I wanted I went with it and moved on and made it better. I have used these materials before so they weren't knew to me and I just used them in ways I have before.
