End of term refelction

  1. What was your greatest achievement this term? Why?
I think I did well experimenting with materials and taking risks. In my pattern project I didn't know what it was exactly going to look when I did a pattern on top of a repeated stencil. And my wax project the idea of layers I wasn't sure if it would work or not wanting it to be see through but I stuck with it even though I knew it might not turn out how I expected.

  1. What did you struggle with the most? Why?
Maybe getting going on projects. Sometimes I might have an idea but it takes me a little while decide to start. It is good to plan things out but sometimes I think I might have been stuck on what I want something look like and could have maybe just started and gone with an idea and see where it had taken me.

  1. What would you do differently next time? Why?
Plan less and do more making. Meaning I would still plan out my projects just maybe start sooner when I get an idea and just go with it and see where it takes me.

  1. What was something that saw, heard, thought, etc that  inspired you to do something unexpected? For me looking at picture online helped me come up with ideas for projects. At first when I was thinking about my pattern and repetition project I thought I might do something baseball. But when I look online and say a picture of a scull and cross bones I thought it might look cool if I did a piece with repeated skulls on it and not have every project be about what I like the red sox.

  1. Is there anything you will continue to do in upcoming art classes that you learned here?
Well I learned that once you come up with an idea even if you don't think it will be your final idea to just go with it and see where it takes you. For me sometimes coming up with an idea can be one of the most challenging parts of a project so I think if I get an idea and just dive in that could be a good thing. I would obviously plan it out but I think getting going on a project is important for me.

  1. What will you leave with that makes you different then when you walked in? The ability to take risks. I think thats one thing I have learned over the year. Sometimes I can be worried about what the outcome is or looks like. I feel that I was able to do less of that this term.

  1. Is there something you’d like me to know about your experience in this class? It was good. This class seemed to me pretty different than most art classes I have taken at beaver before.

Reflection to artists

  1. What stood out to you after hearing Arturo Herrera and Mark Bradford talk about their work and process? Both of them used collage and newspaper. I liked how Mark Bradford used sandpaper to change up his work when he didn't like how something looked.

  1. How do any of these ideas relate to you in your current project? What could you use from them to help your work? A lot of their work was changing. They had one big idea and then kept making small changes to it. Ideas can change and sometimes you do not always go with your first idea because it might not always be your best one.

  1. Where are you in your newspaper project? What is fueling your idea and thinking? I am at the point where I am coming up with my idea. I have gathered many images from the newspaper that are interesting to me and that I might be able to use in my project. I am thinking I will do something with portrait or pictures of players that I like and then collage them and put them in some kind of order.

  1. Don’t forget to post any images that your are looking at to your blog!

Final Reflection

My strengths this term were:
I think I did a really good job coming up with good ideas for my projects and then expanding onto my idea in order to make them into finished pieces of art work. I also think I was good at using x block time when I needed too. At the end of the I remember coming and working a couple days during that time. This was good cause it made me not so overwhelmed with finishing up my projects.

Some things I struggled with were:
I think for me it might have made my art work slightly different or even in a few cases maybe better if I had tried more materials. I think trying paint was good but I think if I had done more of that and expanded on what materials I used it could have benefited me because in the past I have worked with pencil and paint before. For me I think I had the tendency to work with what felt right or comfortable to me. This is ok however, looking back I wish maybe I had taken a few more risks by maybe trying a few more materials.

Project I am most proud of and why was:
I am most proud of my test image picture. I draw David Ortizs hands of when he points to the sky after he hits a home run. I just feel like to me out of all my work that this piece felt the most complete and finished even thought I did manage to complete other pieces. I just like the the image of the hands and text came out.

Over all my thoughts and feelings about this class and my work this term was:
I feel that the work I created in this class was quality work. I think it helped me make art of something that I was interested in or passionate about. I feel I was

Thoughts you would like me to know about any aspect of this class:
Well for me I did not really like the drawing from observation downstair. I just felt most of the projects we did were pretty similar without a ton of variety and I have not been a huge fan of drawing from observation like that over the past few years.
